Historie
The steam pumping station in Winschoten is 1 of 9 steam pumping stations in the Netherlands. It is the only auger steam pumping station in the world! An auger screws the water from low to high. The steam engine dates from 1895 and operated until 1971. Then its function was taken over by the pumping station at Hongerige Wolf, and this steam pumping station was no longer needed. Since 1978, the steam pumping station and engine have been a national monument. A group of enthusiastic volunteers is dedicated to its maintenance.
